FAQs About Counselling

How do I know counselling is for me?

  • When you feel that you need to make a change in your life, your relationship, or your family.
  • If someone who knows you well has suggested to you that seeing a counsellor or psychologist would be a good idea because of the issues you are struggling with.
  • If you are struggling with the same issue and are having a hard time making long-term change.

What is counselling like?

  • You will be in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
  • There will be a therapeutic conversation that is focused on the goals that we will set together.
  • The approach taken in counselling will be one that is best suited for you and best suited to bringing about the change you are seeking in your life.

How do I know I will be successful in counselling?

  • If you are motivated to make a change in your life.
  • If you are ready to make a commitment of your time to learn new strategies and behaviours.
  • If you are willing to learn and put into action new ways to interact with others and/or take care of yourself.

How long will I be in counselling?

  • The goal is to bring about a positive change in your life as quickly as possible.
  • The exact length will vary depending on your needs and your situation. This will be discussed in the first or second session and can then be discussed in future sessions.
